Anamarija Knežević completed her undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, Croatia in 2008. Afterwards, she started her PhD at the Ruđer Bosković Institute, Zagreb in the group of Dr. Vladimir Vinković in the field of organic synthesis and stereochemistry, i.e. chiral materials for chromatography. In parallel to her doctoral work on chiral stationary phases, she collaborated with the group of Dr. Zrinka Kovarik, Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health. She worked on the development of biologically active compounds - potential inhibitors and reactivators of cholinesterases, and later on the influence of various bronchodilating β2-agonists on the activity of human cholinesterases.
She obtained her PhD in December 2013 and afterwards joined the group of Dr. Andreja Lesac as a postdoctoral scientist, to invest her experimental expertise in the synthesis of liquid crystal compounds. The focus of the research were compounds which exhibit twist-bend nematic phase, an intriguing chiral liquid crystal phase, which emerges from self-assembly of achiral molecules.
In August 2018 she started working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Twente under the supervision of Dr. Tibor Kudernac.
