Naomi Hamelmann was born in Bremen, Germany on July 26th, 1992. In 2011 she moved to the Netherlands to study Biomedical Engineering at the University of Twente. She received her Bachelor’s degree in March 2015 and continued onto her Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in Bionanotechnology and Advanced Biomanufacturing. During the master program, she completed an internship in the Laboratory of Bioresponsive Materials at the University of California, San Diego. She graduated in April 2018, presenting her master thesis entitled “The Blood-Brain Barrier ­– Development of an in vitro model for the screening of single- and multi-chain polymer nanoparticles transport”, under the supervision of Dr. Ir. Jos Paulusse.

As of June 2018, Naomi is a PhD student in the Biomolecular Nanotechnology group under the supervision of Dr. Ir. Jos Paulusse. Her project focuses on the preparation of nanoparticles for the delivery of antimalarial agents to the Plasmodium stages in mosquitos.
