Welcome Rieks Hekman en Martin Buitink
October 1st, 2013 – Last week two new students joined the BMPI! Martin Buitink and Rieks Hekman are fourth year applied physics students and they have just started their Bachelor project about the influence of dynamic tissue phantoms on the decorrelation time of laser speckle, under supervision of dr. Ivo Vellekoop.

September 18th, 2013 – A new student joined the BMPI! Sofia Sevastidou is originally from Greece (Thessaloniki) and she is doing her master in Nanotechnology at the University of Twente.

July 23rd, 2013 – In the last month, four bachelor students successfully finished their projects in BMPI! Maura Dantuma, Marieke Olsman, Wouter van Dijk and Gerda Dedden joined BMPI in April 2013 to finish their bachelor Biomedical Engingeering with a 3-month research project.
Welcome to Sri Nivas Chandrasekaran
July 12th, 2013 – Last month Sri Nivas Chandrasekaran joined BMPI for a 3 month internship. Being a master student in Applied Physics at Cornell University, Ithaca (NY, United States), Sri Nivas will spend his summer in BMPI to work in the field of focusing light through scattering media.
Michelle Heijblom awarded presentation prize at the European Conference on Biomedical Optics (ECBO)
May 17th, 2013 - Michelle Heijblom, has won the 1st prize in the Best Student Oral Presentation competition of the biannual conference European Conferences on Biomedical Optics (ECBO) held at Messe Munchen, Munich, between 12 - 16 May 2013. This is one of the most important conferences on Biomedical Optics.

May 17th, 2013- BMPI congratulates Diederik Grootendorst and Gerrit Held with obtaining the degree of PhD and MSc respectively.
On the 17th of April 2013, Diederik Grootendorst successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled: ‘“Detection of lymph node metastases by photoacoustic imaging and on the 24th of April 2013, Gerrit Held (BME) defended his master thesis regarding the characterization of a handheld photoacoustic image.
Michelle Heijblom speaker at prestigious TEDx event in Geneva
May 17th, 2013 - Michelle Heijblom was invited to Geneva, to share her ideas and experiences of breast imaging using Photoacoustics, at a prestigious TEDx event organized by Procter and Gamble (P&G). The event was held in the P&G center on the 13th of March 2013, with the theme ‘The Power of Trust’. Michelle spoke of the unreliability and uncertainty associated with breast cancer diagnosis using imaging, but also the emotions suffered by patients who are confronted with the disease.
Four new bachelor students BMT in BMPI
April 26th, 2013 - Four new bachelor students joined BMPI on the 22nd of April. In the coming 10 weeks the students will work on an individual research project to obtain their bachelor degree.
BMPI welcomes Matthea van Dijk for her master's assignment
April 26th, 2013 – Last month Matthea van Dijk joined BMPI. Matthea is a master student biomedical engineering following the Human Function Technology – Biomedical physics track and she just started her graduation project in BMPI.
Srirang Manohar wins education prize 2012 biomedical technology
January 10th 2013- BMPI congratulates Srirang Manohar with winning the TNW Education prize for 2012 in the Biomedical Technology Education stream. The prize is given to teachers who stand out for their contribution to excellent education.
Welcome to Paul Hamelmann
January 23rd, 2013 - BMPI welcomes a new master student: Paul Hamelmann.
Paul is a Biomedical Engineering student and his project in BMPI will be the last part of his master track in clinical physics.
Paul will investigate the 3D printing of a phantom that can be used to mimic the skin for measurements with the TOPcam or LSCI, two methods that are available in BMPI.
Batsheba did not have breast cancer after all
January 10th 2013 – In December 2012, the paper
“Monte Carlo simulations shed light on Bathsheba’s suspect breast” written by researchers from BMPI was first published online on the website of the Journal of Biophotonics.
The publication of this paper got a lot of national attention. Amongst others Nu.nl, De Volkskrant en Trouw placed the news on their website and both the NRC and Tubantia placed an article about it in the printed weekend edition of the newspaper.
