Nicole Zeijen was born the 13th of October 1984 in Oldenzaal, the Netherlands. She obtained her Master degree in Biomedical Sciences at the Radboud University Nijmegen in 2008. The project was performed at the RIVM under supervision of prof. dr. Aldert Piersma and it was aimed at the characterization of proliferation and differentiation of embryonic stem cells differentiating to cardiomyocytes.
For over a year she worked at the University of Twente as a researcher in the project of circulating tumour cells, after which she returned to academia to receive a Bachelor degree in Chemistry at Saxion University of Applied Sciences in 2013. Her thesis concerned unravelling the working mechanism of the anticancer agent 3-bromopyruvate in the field of Nanotechnology. During her 2 year studies, she was taken on as a lecturer in the field of Toxicology at Saxion, where she is still employed part time in Forensic Science.
Since the 1st of September 2016, she is granted a PhD scholarship from Saxion and has joint the Molecular Nanofabrication (MNF) group as a PhD under the supervision of prof. dr. ir. Pascal Jonkheijm. Her project includes the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells when manipulated by biomolecular stimuli on lipid bilayers.
