Research Macular Degeneration on a Chip
After receiving his BSc degree from Molecular Biology and Genetics at Bilkent University, Turkey; Yusuf received his MSc degree from Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. First of his two research projects in Molecular Mechanisms of Disease program focused on unravelling single cell heterogeneity using droplet microfluidics. Secondly, he worked at the Lab-on-a Chip BIOS group at the University of Twente. In this research period, he investigated the interaction of protein aggregates that are encountered in neurodegenerative diseases with cell membrane by using organ-on-chip models. His work in AST combines both biology and engineering; investigation of edema and inflammation in wet age-related macular degeneration by using organ-on a chip model systems.
