From the start of academic year 2018-19 we will use our new UT learning management system Canvas as successor of Blackboard. During the summer holidays the courses are created based on the OSIRIS information and lecturers, educational support and student assistants have put a lot of effort in preparing the 2018-19 quartile courses in Canvas and make sure that all the courses are ready to use.
All lecturers and students have access to Canvas and students who have enrolled in OSIRIS for their course(s) are enrolled in the Canvas courses and will see their courses on their Canvas Dashboard.
With the start with Canvas we will also start with a new plagiarism detection application. The main reasons for this change was that our current plagiarism application Ephorus can’t be integrated into Canvas
The UT will use Urkund as plagiarism detection application in Canvas for the academic year 2018-19 and will also join the national plagiarism detection tender of SURF. More information of this process and the use of plagiarism detection outside of Canvas can be read in this separate news item. The UT documents from the Ephorus database have been imported into the Urkund database and will be searched when you run you plagiarism scan from Canvas.
It's quite easy to use plagiarism detection in Canvas. Plagiarism options will appear in a Canvas when you create an assignment, choose for submission type “Online” and select the option “File Uploads”.
If you activate the plagiarism detection for an assignment, you can still use all other available functionality for an assignment, such as the SpeedGrader, annotations, rubrics and peer review.
