Does a blended design work for ICREP?

The International Course on Rural Energy Planning (ICREP) is delivered by a team headed by prof dr Joy Clancy of the department of Government and Technology for Sustainability (CSTM). In the past this was a 5 week campus-based program. In October 2015 a redesign was done in collaboration with the Centre of Expertise in Learning and Teaching (CELT). The result is a blended course: 8 weeks online and 2 weeks on campus.

In this course we used a large variety of synchronous and a-synchronous learning activities. These are offered in different delivery formats like face to face, video, text or images. We used various solutions, such: Blackboard Collaborate for webinars, a Trello board for discussion and Q&A sessions and we used Articulate Storyline to produce the other learning materials (quizzes, videos and documents).

Students were very satisfied with this new design. 4.9 out of 5 would recommend this course to others. Do you want to read more about the design process and the results? Please see our poster.
