Roessingh Research and Development (RRD) is a research and development SME in the area of rehabilitation technology and telemedicine with strong formalized links to one of the largest rehabilitation Centres in the Netherlands (Roessingh Centre for Rehabilitation) and the University of Twente. The mission of RRD is to carry out scientific research and contribute to its commercialization and implementation in clinical practice. RRD develops innovations in a multidisciplinary team and in close collaboration with all stakeholders (patients, informal and formal caregivers, academia, health care organisations and industry).
In 2016 eleven partners from the Twente region decided to join efforts in a common mission: transform Twente into the most vital region in the Netherlands. Currently, the Vitaal Twente foundation facilitates the collaboration between the Menzis health insurance company, the 14 Twente municipalities, research and education institutions (UTwente, Saxion and ROC Twente), the GGD Twente, RRD, the Ziekehuisgroep Twente and Carint Reggeland. In 2017, Vitaal Twente was granted a subsidy from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS).
Ziekenhuisgroep Twente (ZGT) is a large teaching hospital in the Twente region that contributes to the health of the people in our region and beyond in the form of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and nursing. ZGT serves approx. 250,000 patients a year and is continuously working on the improvement of and innovation in health care. Concerning its scientific research ZGT acknowledges five research themes: patients empowerment, predictive care, fast and smart diagnostics, minimally invasive treatments and value based health care. The main medical disciplines contributing to scientific research are: rheumatology, diabetes, urology, radiology, trauma surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, vascular surgery, cardiology and orthopaedics. Quality assurance of scientific research is a very important element of scientific research and, as part of this, all principal investigators do have an acknowledged good clinical practice certificate. ZGT has more than 120 scientific publications each years of which over 75% in Q1 journals.
