The 'TechMed Living Lab' (in Dutch 'TechMed Proeftuin') is an open innovation landscape that aims to improve the medical impact and speed up the economic return of new healthcare concepts and products. By sharing the state-of-the-art medical simulation facilities of the Experimental Centre for Technical Medicine (ECTM) of the University of Twente as Living Lab and the expertise of the TechMed Living Lab partners (University of Twente, Holland Innovative, Panton, Unitron) we aim to boost the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of medical innovations.
The Living Lab employs 2 instruments for researchers and entrepreneurs in the field of medical technology to reach this goal:
I. Individual case support; and
II. TechMed Workshop Series.
Participation in either of the two programs is free of charge.
Researchers and entrepreneurs can apply for support by the TechMed Living Lab team to increase the Technological Readiness Level (TRL) of their medical innovation. The support can include use of facilities and/or coaching sessions/advice by one of the Living Lab partners; Holland Innovative, Panton, Unitron and the University of Twente. Participation to the TechMed Living Lab is free of charge.
The advice and exact content of support will depend on the innovation’s current TRL level, the development question, the involvement of end-users, the business case and a risk assessment of the Living Lab project partners. The final package will be defined in consultation with the Living Lab Partners and the entrepreneur/researcher.
Expertise of the partners
The TechMed Living Lab partner offer a broad range expertise to stimulate medical innovation; o.a. project management, product/process development, design for six-sigma & reliablity, involving end-users in design process, CE marking, production of medical technology. Each of the project partners contributes with a unique set of skills and expertise, a short description of expertise offered for individual cases of the Living Lab can be found here.
Facilities of the TechMed Living Lab
Within the Living Lab, facilities of the Experimental Centre for Technical Medicine (ECTM) are available for testing medical innovations at different stages of development. Please see our overview of the facilities here.
A second tool of the TechMed Living Lab to stimulate market introduction of medical innovations is the TechMed Workshop Series ‘Remove the Barriers to Market Readiness’. The aim of the workshop series is to spread our knowledge and network to a broader group of medical innovators. This TechMed Workshop Series is a one-year-course of workshops for (future) entrepreneurs in the field of medical technology.
For questions about the individual cases or workshop series, please contact us via: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The TechMed Living Lab is made possible by the European Fund for Regional Development (OP-Oost)
