The TechMed Centre facilities include two simulated operating rooms: a hybrid operating room and a general operating room.
Clinically Realistic Environment
These spaces are designed for preclinical testing of innovations from both our researchers and our partners within our broad ecosystem. The simulated ORs are used for education to add a realistic clinical component to our existing radiation expertise courses, to provide general surgical training, and as a training facility for medical professionals in our Life-Long Learning programs.
Hybrid Operating Room
The hybrid operating room (OR) is equipped with a Siemens Artis Pheno robotic angiography system. In addition to standard angiography techniques, the Artis Pheno also supports (Cone Beam) CT scans and image-guided minimally invasive interventions. The hybrid OR is equipped with a contrast injector, real-time dosimetry, and a wide range of equipment to safely (learn to) handle ionizing radiation in a clinical setting.
General Operating Room
In addition to the hybrid OR, there is a second general OR available, focused on new techniques for minimally invasive surgery, ranging from 3D endoscopy and magnetic tumor detection to intraoperative diagnostics. This creates a flexible OR setup that can be used for both education and research.
Support
Both rooms are equipped with A/V recording systems, allowing user tests and scenario training to be recorded. Depending on the request, support for research, innovation, or educational activities may include preparing the environment and software for use or operating the imaging equipment by one of our imaging specialists.
