Step into the world of hands-on innovation. The Innovation Labs bring together professionals and curious minds in real lab spaces, guiding you from insight to implementation. Through interactive workshops hosted by the TechMed Academy, you actively learn, experiment and collaborate, not by watching, but by doing. Across five stand-alone workshops, the Innovation Labs address the practical questions the hospital of the future raises today: how do we scale regional innovations, building on lessons learned from initiatives such as Zorg Innovatie Plein? What does new legislation, such as the MDR, actually ask of companies and the professionals who work with their innovations? And how do we prepare healthcare professionals for a future in which not everything can be practised on patients, and every situation is increasingly unique? Across themes of upscaling, regulation, production and talent development, each workshop offers a preview of what the hospital of the future could look like, and the talent development needed to make that future possible. Because in the hospital of the future, learning never stops.

If we want healthcare professionals to adapt to a rapidly changing world, shape it for the better, and drive innovation, we must also rethink and innovate how we support lifelong learning. Learning and development should be a shared responsibility between educational institutions, employers and learners themselves. In this interactive workshop, you will explore and experience how adaptive expertise can be developed through a combination of everyday on-the-job learning and creative, out-of-the-box training methods outside the workplace. Discover how continuous learning can help professionals not only respond to change, but actively shape it.

The Netherlands is great in innovation. Yet, we fail to translate them into impactful solutions. One crucial factor is that many of our innovations don’t solve (the right) problems or create sufficient value for the healthcare system. If we want to make the Hospital of the Future a reality, we need to deploy our efforts where they count. The Stanford Biodesign innovation method offers a structured approach to identify real needs, invent meaningful solutions and implement them successfully in the real world. In this workshop, you will gain your first insights into the Biodesign methodology and put it into practice by working on one of its essential building blocks: designing need statements.

Rules and regulations are essential to ensure the safe use of new medical technologies. But they can also feel complex, time-consuming and overwhelming. Where do you start? In this hands-on workshop, you will work with a real-life case to gain your first practical insights into the Medical Device Regulation (MDR). Along the way, you will discover that regulation does not have to be merely a burden. When used effectively, the MDR can also support and strengthen your design and innovation process.

Your innovation works. But what comes next? How do you scale a successful innovation from one department to an entire organisation or even across multiple organisations? And what can we learn when transferring successful approaches from one healthcare setting to another? Zorg Innovatie Plein is a regional collaboration focused on innovating together and building sustainable innovation practices within healthcare. In this workshop, we will explore the lessons learned from Zorg Innovatie Plein and discuss how these insights can help us scale innovation and develop the skills needed for the Hospital of the Future.

Transforming healthcare requires multidisciplinary professionals who can drive change from within their own organisations. Yet many healthcare professionals are traditionally educated within a specific discipline or domain. This workshop explores an innovative approach to advanced professional development that enables professionals to address real-world transformation challenges from within their own practice, while engaging in a rigorous academic learning trajectory. By combining academic learning with practical challenges, professionals can develop new knowledge, skills and expertise that remain directly applicable to their healthcare organisations. During this interactive workshop, we will explore how practice-based, interdisciplinary learning can support healthcare transformation, and discuss together what is needed to make such an approach successful.

The Innovation Labs are developed on the initiative of TechMed Academy, together with its partners. TechMed Academy, part of the Technical Medical Centre at the University of Twente, offers academically certified and flexible education for healthcare professionals working at the intersection of healthcare and technology. Combining its Simulation Centre with medical and educational expertise, TechMed Academy equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to keep up in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.
