By 2050, nearly 70% of the world's population will live in cities. At the same time, urban areas are facing interconnected challenges such as climate change, social isolation, population ageing, growing mental health pressures, and increasing demand for healthcare services. This session addresses how system-level transformation extends beyond clinical walls. Specifically, how can cities support mental wellbeing, health, and resilience in this changing context?
To address this question, this session explores the concept of Thriving Future Cities: urban environments that strengthen resilience at the level of people, communities, places, and systems. Following a short introduction, a multidisciplinary panel of experts from government, healthcare, industry, and academia will discuss promising solutions, ranging from climate adaptation and healthy urban design to social cohesion, prevention, and healthcare innovation. Together with the audience, the panel will explore how cross-sector collaboration can help create cities that promote mental wellbeing, strengthen community resilience, and ensure sustainable healthcare for future generations.
