Challenges of medical imaging for screening
An often-heard argument is that the earlier a disease is detected, the better the outcome will be. This is why certain diseases, such as breast cancer, are being monitored by screening the population using medical imaging. Other diseases might also benefit from this approach, but this will undeniably lead to an increase in workload in the health sector because more imaging data will need to be acquired, processed, and screened by healthcare professionals. This will add to the already growing burden due to the ageing population. Solutions might be found in AI interpretation of images, new medical scanners that require less human assistance, or even screening performed in a private setting. In this session speakers representing all involved parties (clinic, science, corporate, and government) will highlight their view on this challenge and discuss future directions.
