Artificial Intelligence is transforming the landscape of healthcare, but how do we ensure that intelligent algorithms developed in research settings deliver value at the patient’s bedside? This session explores the crucial journey from lab-based simulation to real-world application through the lens of three essential perspectives: the patient, the start-up, and the data-driven engineer.
With contributions from AllAI, the Dutch Patients Association, and Demcon Data Driven Solutions, we delve into the practical challenges and lessons learned when AI technologies transition from concept to clinical care. Central to the discussion is how these systems can be designed to meet actual patient needs – and why trust, transparency, and human-centred design are non-negotiable for successful adoption.
We’ll also hear from innovative start-ups on what it takes to move beyond the prototype phase, navigating validation, system integration, and regulatory frameworks. At the same time, applied researchers and industry leaders share insights on embedding AI within complex healthcare environments in a way that is safe, ethical, and effective. This session opens the floor to critical reflection and dialogue around a key question: What does it take to make AI meaningful and impactful in the everyday lives of patients?
