Climate Exam at UT Test your climate knowledge

Although climate change does not always dominate the political agenda at the moment, its effects are noticeable worldwide every day. At the same time, reliable and up-to-date knowledge about the climate is not self-evident for everyone. That is why the Climate Exam will take place on Thursday afternoon, May 21, at our university, in the Spiegel building, lecture hall 7. Between 13:00 and 17:00 you can test your climate knowledge here; the exam takes about an hour.

The local edition at UT is part of the national Climate Exam, which is organized from May 8 to May 29, 2026. During this period, schools, municipalities, companies, and civil society organizations across the country organize their own Climate Exam.

INSIGHT INTO CLIMATE KNOWLEDGE AND OPTIONS FOR ACTION

What role does deforestation play in climate change? Why have China’s CO₂ emissions increased so strongly in recent decades? And which measures help reduce heat stress in cities? These are examples of questions participants can expect during the Climate Exam.
The exam is compiled annually by an independent examination committee with experts from universities and knowledge institutes, including the KNMI and Utrecht University. The questions are current, fact-based, and grounded in the most recent scientific insights.
The objective is threefold: to increase climate knowledge, to provide insight into choices that contribute to solutions, and to emphasize the importance of the future of the generation currently taking the exam.

FROM EXAM TO CONVERSATION

After completing your exam, there will be an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with staff from the SEE program (Sustainability, Energy & Environment). We will conclude at 17:00, after which participants are warmly invited to stay and continue discussions, and to exchange ideas for improvements and initiatives at UT.

SUCCESSFUL NATIONAL EDITION

The previous edition of the national Climate Exam attracted more than 20,000 participants in 2025 and was organized at 123 locations across the Netherlands. With more than 90 registrations already for this year’s edition, the broad interest in the topic is once again evident.
