Sustainable Event Guidelines

WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAY INFORMED ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY AT THE UT?

SUSTAINABLE START FOR YOUR EVENT

To reduce the carbon footprint in Twente, Green Hub has created two powerful tools to help events become more sustainable: the Events Guide and the Green Certificate.

The Events Guide consists of five topics: Communication, Water, Waste, Food & Drinks, and Materials. It collects the best practices in organizing events, allowing the decrease of their environmental footprint and at the same time sacrificing as little fun as possible.

The Green Certificate, on other hand, helps analyze how sustainable your event is with a use of a special questionnaire. The focused topics are Communication, Catering, Energy & Transit Footprint, and Materials & Waste. The questionnaire can be also used in the earlier stage of the event design to get some inspiration and directions to go.

WHY SHOULD I APPLY FOR THE GREEN CERTIFICATE?

HOW CAN I APPLY FOR THE GREEN CERTIFICATE?

Download the excel sheet named Green Certificate Questionnaire on this webpage. By filling in the excel sheet, a scorecard will appear based on your answers. This scorecard can give your event a Bronze, Silver, or Gold sustainable recognition. Remember to start as early in the planning process as you can and save this file often.

Considering the Green Certificate Questionnaire while planning will help you to organize your event sustainably, reducing the cost of time or money to adapt your event to a sustainable plan.

There are four steps to be taken:

Step 1: Review the questionnaire in its entirety to familiarize yourself with the framework.

Step 2: Fill out each line to reflect your event plan.

Step 3: When you are done filling out this form, you will see your score at the bottom of the page. Review and make any changes in your planning.

Step 4: Once complete, send the form to operational-greenhub@utwente.nl for final review and official sustainable event certification.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I APPLIED FOR THE GREEN CERTIFICATE?

Once all steps are completed you will receive a (provisional) Green Pass. Before granting the Green Pass, we will invite you to an interview to verify how you plan to implement sustainable design choices that you have indicated in the questionnaire. This meeting usually occurs within two weeks after the application. The Green Pass allows you to promote your event online as a sustainable event certified by Green Hub before the event happens. A Green Hub's employee might attend the event itself to make an audit of compliance before granting the official (final) Green Certificate to the event. The certificate can take up to one month to be issued after the date of the event.
