Finance bootcamp for Smart Businesses

The world has been experiencing a gulf of new ventures in all fields using creative technology. Think of Tesla, Google, Uber, Alibaba, 5G. Drones have started delivering e-commerce packages; driverless cars are now moving on the road; smartphone companies are doing banking business; fintech entrepreneurs and firms are thriving. Private companies using new  technology (for example, takeaway.com) are going public.

How to make smart investment decisions that create value? 

In such a changing world, good knowledge of financial management can make a difference. Innovators and engineers need multi-level expertise to realize their ambitions by meeting the wishes of many different stakeholders like owners, creditors, customers, suppliers. Their business ideas need a carefully chosen financial plan. Lack of financial management knowledge cannot be a hinder to smartly manage investments & financing, earn profit and realize business targets.

  • Entrepreneurs use their creative ideas to establish new ventures and achieve sustainable growth.
  • A firm’s attempt to raise capital is frequently thrown into doubt because investors find it too risky.

Dr. Ramirez-Marquez has been a researcher all his life with an interest in developing computational techniques to solve a variety of problems. His research efforts are currently focused on the reliability analysis and optimization of complex systems, the development of mathematical models for sensor networks operational effectiveness, the computational analysis of resilience and, the development of evolutionary optimization algorithms. He will give a talk about future trends in smart city research.

Bram Nauta is a professor in Electrical Engineering at the UT and he can tell you everything about chips and circuits. He invented the Nauta Circuit. This invention came to his mind while he was taking a swim. He quickly went out of the pool and asked for pen and paper. Nauta will talk about his invention.

Course leader

Rez Kabir: Professor of Corporate Finance and Risk Management
His main academic interests are on:

  • Corporate finance
  • Corporate governance,
  • Capital market research
  • Investments

Prof. Kabir has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on corporate finance/financial management at universities in Antwerp, Beijing, Liege, Maastricht, New York, Stirling and Tilburg. His research is primarily multi-disciplinary, empirical and policy-oriented, and spans a wide variety of issues.
