8x fun card games for students

Whether it's a rainy evening at home, you have a break between lectures, or you just want to do something fun with your friends, a nice game is exactly what you need. And no, I’m not talking about drinking games, I’m talking proper old-school card games 😉. Here are the eight best card games for students, and I promise: you’ll understand every single one in under five minutes!

1. Beverbende

Beverbende is all about memory. Each player receives four face-down cards, of which you can only see the two on the outside. During your turn, you can swap a card with someone else's, peek at one of your own, or exchange a card from the draw pile. Whoever has the lowest score at the end of a round wins! Sounds very simple, and it is, but don’t underestimate how hard it is to remember all your cards ;)!

2. Black Stories

With Black Stories, you take turns reading a dark riddle. The rest of the group tries to figure out what exactly happened by asking yes/no questions to the reader (who can read the answer on the back of the card). The perfect game for a rainy, dark evening! With more than 20 versions, you'll be busy for a while. If sinister campus stories don't scare you, try the Black Stories university edition...

Except for one English version, Black Stories is written in Dutch. But no worries: just take a picture of the cards with Google Translate and you will work it out easily!

Duration: 5-20 minutes, depending on how quickly you solve the riddles

3. Saboteur

If you loved Among Us, you’ll love Saboteur too! In this game, everyone gets a role: dwarf or saboteur. The dwarves work together to find a hidden treasure by building corridors to create a tunnel to the gold. The saboteurs, however, try to prevent this. They can break their tools or block roads. Because you don't know who belongs to which party, the dwarves' task is to find out who belongs to them. At the same time, the saboteurs must try not to be too suspicious, otherwise they might get blocked themselves... Saboteur is especially fun with multiple players, because then there are also multiple saboteurs!

4. Valse Motten

Do you always cheat at Monopoly? Then you should try Valse Motten (Cheating Moths)! This is the only game where you HAVE to cheat to win! The goal is to be the first to get rid of your cards. You can discard most cards, but some cards can only be “played” by sneakily making them disappear: in your sleeve, on the floor or on your lap, for example. Meanwhile, the guard bug tries to catch you in the act. An ideal game to play with all your cheating friends ;)!

You score points by filling entire columns and coloured areas. The other players can also use the leftover dice from your turn, so no one has to wait around!
