Google and Microsoft are buying nuclear power plants to keep their clouds up in the air. The energy consumption of ICT seems to explode, especially because of the use of AI. How much energy does computing require and what can be done to reduce our digital footprint? Prof dr ir Hans Hilgenkamp (Scientific Director MESA+ institute, UT) gives an overview and explains how big the problem could become. Fernando Castor de Lima Filho PhD (Computer Science, UT) will talk about green software developments. Dr ir Pantelis Bampoulis (Nano Electronic Materials, UT) discovered Germanene, a smart material which can transport electrons without energy loss. Will this be the future of computing? In cooperation with KIVI Students Twente, Arago, Green Hub and Inter-Actief.
