Do we let ourselves get distracted more easily than we used to when there was no internet, let alone mobile phones? Probably not, because attention seekers have always existed. However, algorithms are very shrewd at catching and holding our attention. Can you arm yourself against them? According to Thinker of the Netherlands, Marjan Slob MA, exercise helps you concentrate better. She also argues that deciding for yourself what you pay attention to gives you freedom. You live on your own terms and are not mindlessly scrolling as time passes. As a philosopher, she places the theme of attention in a broader and even moral framework: you become a better person.
