The Specialization year of the SET master programme - Bioresource Value Chain Management track

Focus

The specialization Bioresource Value Chain Management (BVM) will provide the education to manage, optimize and innovate bioresource supply chains in European regional contexts and to optimize resource utilization within the framework of a Bio-Economy. The aim of the program is to scientifically educate professionals to analyze, develop, manage and innovate existing and new bioresource value chains in an European regional context. The curriculum is multidisciplinary combining knowledge and skills of biology, chemical and mechanical engineering, business development and economics and supply chain management and innovation.

After successful completion of the SET-BVM master programme, the graduate will have gained knowledge and skills to design and develop the path towards a bioeconomy in Europe.

Career Prospects

Graduates will be able to manage and lead the transition to a bio-economy in Europe and the world. The SET-BVM graduate will take this challenge by initiating and developing new value chains out of local bioresources and turn these into sustainable economic value for regions. Their job can be part of an industry and public or private bio-organizations devoted to and working on the development of a sustainable bio-economy.

Overview of the specialization year

The first part of the BVM specialization year is devoted to specialization courses (quartile 1 and 2). You will deepen your knowledge on bioresource value chains, economics, management and business development. The teaching approach is problem oriented, implying teaching with real-life cases as much as possible in collaboration with industry. As part of the teaching modules, students are also encouraged to participate in international summer schools on bio-engineering topics. In the second part of the specialization year (quartile 3 and 4) the master assignment is carried out in collaboration with industry in the Netherlands or abroad. The thesis research is innovative, industry driven and adds to industrial or regional bio-based developments. Thesis topics combine a resource, technology, economic and chain orientation.
