Laundry

Introduction

Campus and Facility Management facilitates a contract for washing laundry. The contract concerns an agreement to provide sufficient flexibility in addition to quality. Contracting the desired quality at the most favourable price possible represents an advantage for the UT in terms of efficiency.

This handbook describes, amongst others, the collection points, how laundry should be supplied, and so on.

Collection points

Wasserij Korf collects and delivers the washing directly from/to a number of buildings at UT. The current direct collection point is:

  • Garage (central goods inwards).

If there is no direct collection point at your building, you can drop the soiled laundry at the Service Desk in your building. They will put the laundry bag in a blue Post & Logistics distribution container and Wasserij Korf will then collect the laundry bag from central goods inwards (Garage). Post & Logistics will return the clean laundry to the Service Desk of your building.

A laundry bag can be requested through Daniëlle Hendriks in Procurement (Campus and Facility Management) on telephone number 3468, email d.c.g.hendriks@utwente.nl. or procurement@utwente.nl.

Collection and drop off time

Wasserij Korf attends the university twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays) to collect dirty laundry and deliver clean laundry.

Wasserij Korf collects and delivers laundry at the following times:

  • Tuesdays between 08.30 - 10.00 hours
  • Fridays between 08.30 - 10.00 hours

Supplying laundry for collection

Soiled laundry must be supplied in a laundry bag. This laundry bag must bear a clear label with the building name and internal bank account number. If the laundry (bag) has no label affixed, Wasserij Korf cannot collect it. Labelling is very important in respect of returning the clean laundry. Wasserij Korf will place the clean laundry in the laundry bag labelled with the building and internal bank account number so that it is clear to Post & Logistics to which building the laundry needs to go.

Cotton laundry bags bearing the department name and/or building name and internal bank account number can be ordered from Wasserij Korf.

Speed wash

If you require a speed wash, contact Wasserij Korf to arrange a time for the laundry to be returned. The minimum turnaround is generally 4 hours and the maximum turnaround is 24 hours. A speed wash will incur an additional charge of € 7.50.

Prices

A washing/dry cleaning rate per item (of clothing) has been agreed. This price is charged for every wash. You can find a price list in appendix 1. If a specific rate is not included in the price list, please contact Wasserij Korf. Prices exclude 21% VAT and are fixed for the duration of the contract.

Invoicing

Invoicing takes place monthly in arrears within 14 days of month end. A separate invoice is issued for each faculty/service department with an annex clearly showing what was sent to the laundry that month (broken down by department if applicable).

Checklists

Registration of the washing supplied is wholly the responsibility of Wasserij Korf. Korf draws up checklists for each faculty/service department (whether or not broken down by department). However, it is advisable to check on an ad hoc basis whether the washing you supplied has been returned.

Complaints procedure

If you have complaints about the quality of cleaning, for example, or if your washing has not been returned in a timely fashion, contact Wasserij Korf on telephone number 074 – 2661738, or Daniëlle Hendriks in Procurement (Campus and Facility Management) on telephone number 3468, email d.c.g.hendriks@utwente.nl. or procurement@utwente.nl

If it concerns a structural complaint, contact Daniëlle Hendriks on telephone number 053 -  489 3468,  email d.c.g.hendriks@utwente.nl or procurement@utwente.nl. Naturally, you can also always contact the Service Desk of your building.

Eric Brinkhorst: General assignements

I’m working for more than 34 years as an independent allround freelance photojournalist. Based in Ambt Delden and also based in Scheveningen. I do capture national and local news, sports, reportages and portraits for newspapers (NRC Handelsblad) AD, Press agency ANP, magazines. I use that same journalistic approach for a wide range of markets like business magazines, governments, educational institutions. and commercial photography. For some faculties at the University of Twente I am the "house photographer" for years now. The University is a sparkling environment with inspiring people; A creative world to work in for me as a photographer. It is great to be involved thinking about possibilities and solutions about images, their impact and imagery. I fly drones since 2011 and I have my Specific licence.

Rikkert Harink: General assignments

As a photographer, I am always looking for a special angle for subjects I photograph. I try to capture that one distinctive moment in an image. I make easily contact and look closely at details. My work mainly involves magazines, newspapers, educational institutions, governments and companies. I like to think along with your photograph so that we can achieve a good and beautiful result together. Portrait photography is one of my specialties, these photos can also be taken in my photo studio. Because of my journalistic background, I like to tell stories through photography. Frans Nikkels: General assignments and Inaugural lectures & Defences

Although I have a journalistic background, images with movement, in which something happens, it is mainly portraits that I make at the University of Twente. Preferably portraits of people in their own environment, in their field. Furthermore, especially symposia, flyers and folders, graduation ceremonies, farewell receptions, promotions and of course the work for UToday. In general I walk around here with a smile and I have a positive attitude where I like to make the image the way I have it in mind. And I like to do my best for that.

Just like you, your intended readers are likely to be busy people who prefer texts that are clear and to the point. As an experienced academic language editor I can help to make your writing more effective and deliver the message in your journal article, report or grant proposal in such a way that your work is more likely to be read, cited and funded.

I have an MSc in Plant Pathology, a PhD in Ecology, and plenty of experience with publishing my own research and writing grant proposals. Since 2004 I have been working as a freelance technical translator, editor and trainer in academic writing for a broad range of clients. My areas of expertise include agriculture, ecology, soil & water management, renewable energy and climate science.

I have a love of both science and words. As an undergraduate in Australia I completed a double degree in Arts and Science majoring in Botany, Zoology and Cinema Studies. I then went further into science, specialising in botanical taxonomy for my Phd – the names and differences between plant species. I have also worked in ecological consultancy, biodiversity informatics and university teaching.

I helped design and teach the Academic Bootcamps for PhDs and Science Writing course at the University of Twente for the first few years they ran. I have years of experience with scientific writing of all forms, reports, grant applications (including a successful NWO Veni), presentations, posters, proposals, you name it, I’ve done it.

I have returned to Australia working as a freelancer in science and scientific writing. I can help you to improve the clarity in your writing, can edit your work, check for consistency, give you feedback on your grant proposal or help polish a presentation.

Hi!

I am a qualified proofreader and copy editor who has spent many years revising PhD and Master's texts for University of London students. I am bilingual in English and Dutch, having a Dutch mother and a British father, so I am in the perfect position to enhance texts in English written by non-native speakers. I also spent 17 years working for the BBC as a News Online journalist, so I am highly experienced in advising on the clarity and accuracy of texts, and how to write in an authoritative but approachable style.

My expertise is in the fields of Business Studies and Public Policy, Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, or the Social Sciences. I will offer a quote based on a sample text you send me. I am incredibly passionate about helping students achieve success, so will do Zoom calls with you and will be available on WhatsApp until the day you submit your text. Please see my LinkedIn profile to read reviews from past students I’ve worked with: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/linda-serck-55245231

My editorial expertise is based on a deep understanding of the English needs of Dutch writers. Born Dutch, raised in New Zealand, I moved to the Netherlands in 1980 and speak fluent Dutch. As your editor, you will find me a sensitive specialist in removing traces of your Dutch accent from your text while ensuring that your English is clear, correct and, most important, readable.

I am a qualified journalist (London School of Journalism) and language editor (Instituut voor Tolken en Vertalers, Utrecht). Before setting up NEEDSer in 2004, I worked for Reed Elsevier for 20 years, including 10 years as editor of the company magazine, Elsevier Science World. As a member of SENSE (Society of English-language professionals in the Netherlands) I edited the society’s online magazine, eSense.

With NEEDSer, I have gained broad experience helping Dutch academics writing for international journals in widely diverse fields. Besides many master’s theses, PhD dissertations, and grant applications, I have edited business books for Professional Capital, and Noordhoff.

How may I help you? Mail me now at r.d.werner@ziggo.nl and let’s find out. NEEDSer stands for Native-English Editing + Translation Service.

As an editor, my goal is to ensure you engage effectively with the readers of your text. Can they follow your line of argument? Is the text written in a style they expect and easy for them to understand? And, most important of all, will the text help you realise your goal?

I grew up in the UK and studied Applied Biology at Imperial College London. After completing my PhD in Entomology at Wageningen University and a brief spell of teaching, I started working in science communication as a writer, translator and editor in 1999. Since then, I’ve helped many researchers to publish their research articles in the natural, applied and medical sciences. And I’ve lent a helping hand in a variety of successful grant applications (NWO and ERC).

Of course, I will edit your text for correct English, readability and style. But I do far more. I can spar with you to bring the added value of your research to the fore and help you pitch your message successfully.

Curious about how I can help you? Then give me a call (+31 6 3007 3499) or send an email to contact@thegoldenthread.nl

Communicating good science in clear, well-written English can be challenging for non-native speakers. I can help you to meet this challenge by transforming the final draft of your paper into a polished text – well-structured, easy-to-read and free of errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation – that is ready for submission to your journal of choice.

I have a PhD in neuroscience and more than 10 years of research experience. With this strong scientific background together with professional qualifications in language editing, I have helped many scientists and medical professionals to get their work published. Translation Partners

On 1 October 2025, the new UT tender for translations came into effect with the following three translation partners: Taalcentrum-VU, Acolad Translations (formerly called Metamorfose Translations), and ElaN Languages (formerly called Translavic Translations). We are happy to continue our co-operation with these three partners and are confident that they will meet your expectations, as they have before.

Do you need a translation of any text, academic or non-academic? Our translation partners will be happy to help you! We have made solid agreements on quality, rates, and customer service. Below, you can find more information on our partners and their rates.

Rates

We have agreed on fixed rates with our partners, so you will know what to expect and there is no need for complex quotation procedures. You can find a pdf file with rates under each partner's information below. Once you have sent a translation partner a request for a translation with a project number to which the job can be invoiced, they will get started straight away.

Three partners, three different approaches

Each partner has their own field of expertise, approach and pricing strategy. If you are unfamiliar with any of them, we recommend you try out every partner to see which one suits your needs and expectations best. That being said, they all meet the criteria set by UT regarding quality, the ability to translate various kinds of texts, and the use of UT's English style guide and UT's list of educational terms.

ElaN Languages

Experienced in translations for higher educational institutions

ElaN Languages is an independent, ISO 17100- and ISO 18587-certified language service provider with a strong focus on high-quality translations and solid co-ordination of translation assignments. The company employs 20 in-house language professionals and co-operates with a highly skilled and motivated team of more than 800 native language professionals located throughout Europe and its neighbouring countries.

Written translations comprise the largest part of the linguistic services provided by ElaN Languages. Over the years, ElaN Languages has trained its linguists to adapt the style and tone of their translations to the specific content type and target audience, and to adopt the relevant terminology. Whichever type of text you would like to have translated or edited and whichever target group you intend to reach, our project managers will select the translators, revisers and editors with the appropriate expertise.

After receiving a translation request, our dedicated project manager clarifies the requirements, prepares the file(s) for translation, writes instructions for the translator and reviser and gives them access to applicable sources of reference, terminology lists and style guides. After the reviser has checked and delivered the translation, the project manager carries out a final quality check to ensure that the translation complies with your instructions and wishes.

Through ElaN Languages, you will have access to a pool of translators who have earned their stripes in translation for various higher educational institutions in Europe and who are experienced in adapting their work to different target audiences inside and outside of universities, including students, staff, researchers and the general public.

A selection of the types of texts that our translators, revisers and editors are well versed in:

rates and Delivery

Our project managers always do their utmost to meet your deadline. For translation volumes of between 250 and 1500 words (source language) the whole process takes roughly two working days. Volumes of up to 250 words can often be delivered on the same or next working day. The turnaround time depends on the requested language combination and the nature of the text (subject and complexity).

If you need a translation within a shorter time frame, it may be possible to divide the work between multiple translators to expedite the process. In such cases a single reviser will be assigned to revise the work of the various translators, to ensure quality and consistency.

Translation from Dutch into English and vice versa costs € 0,12 per source word (translation including comparative revision by a second linguist and quality check by the project manager). The rate for editing an English text is € 0,06 per word; the rate for post-editing machine translations is € 0,07 per word.

We offer our translation and editing services in all languages of Europe and its neighbouring countries. Do not hesitate to ask your contact person for the applicable rates.

Valetparking Schiphol (rent vehicles)

There are two rates for the delivery / pick-up of the lease car at Valet: Handling costs and Parking costs. The Handling costs will be calculated from the moment we deliver the car for the customer at Schiphol; these costs are € 37.50 and also apply as parking costs for the first 24.5 hours. This means that €37.50 will be charged if the car is picked up by the customer within 24.5 hours. However, in the weekend it is possible that the vehicle is 'waiting' for the customer longer than 24.5 hours. In this case, a graduated scale is used in which an additional € 7.50 is charged for each additional hour up to 4 hours (=€30.00). Should the car be there for longer than 4 hours, then another € 37.50 will be charged for another 24.5 hours.

For example:

We deliver a vehicle on Friday afternoon at 16:00 that will be picked up on Sunday afternoon at 12:00: 1x Handling costs: 37.50 (rate up to Saturday afternoon 16:30) and 1 additional parking day 37.50 (Parking costs up to Sunday afternoon 16:30). We do not charge any additional airport surcharges that are normally charged by the lease agencies located at Schiphol. This is a sum of at least € 60.

Furthermore, our vehicle will be parked in front of the departures hall and you can leave it in front of the departures hall when you leave. You can make exclusive use of the taxi/bus lane. The only thing you will need to do is leave the key with the Schiphol Valet desk located in the departures hall (see flyer).

Contrary to other lease companies, you do not need to refuel the vehicle and the car will not be extensively checked before you can leave. This will take place afterwards at our location and any fuel costs will be put on the invoice without any high refuelling fees.

The rates we charge are exactly the same as the rates that Schiphol charges ING/us. We simply offer this service for your ease of use without any profit margin.
