NWO Perspectief 2020-2021 Call is open

The NWO Perspectief 2020-2021 has opened. Perspectief focuses on creating strong collaborations between researchers, companies and societal organisations, leading to technological innovations with potential economical and societal impact.

The objective of Perspectief is to contribute to the creation of economic opportunities for the Netherlands, presented by the four societal themes and the Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) in the mission-driven innovation policy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK). The program should therefore fit within one or more of the five Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIAs). In addition, one or more KETs should play a role in each application.

The first deadline to register Program Initiatives is Thursday 22 October 2020, 14:00 CEST. This can be done through the registration form on the NWO website.

Call status:

Open for registering Program Initiatives (phase 1).

Change from previous years:

Co-financing in cash is not compulsory in this round. The total required co-funding is still 30%.
The co-funding proportion for TO2 institutions has been reduced from 50% to 30%.
A researcher may only submit one Program Design (phase 2) or Program Proposal (phase 3) as main applicant and be involved in max. two applications or proposals.

Proposal sizes:

Budget: M€ 1.5 - M€ 4
Co-funding requirement: 30% of the total program costs
Governance: max. 5% of NWO budget
Consortia: >3 knowledge institutes and >4 users
Impact Plan: integrated knowledge exploitation into the research design
Focus: scientific quality (50%) and utilization (50%)

Expected timeline:

Phase 1: Program Initiative deadline: 22 October 2020 - 14:00 h
Phase 2: Program Design deadline: 15 December 2020 - 14:00 h (board decision: March 2021)
Phase 3: Program Proposal deadline: 15 June 2021 - 14:00 h – followed by Rebuttal and Interviews (board decision: December 2021)
