The Future of your Health

research summary

In this study, we explore how we can work together with women, trans men, and non-binary people with sex-specific conditions — for example, endometriosis or hormone-related issues — to build the future of healthcare.

introduction

In healthcare, we try to find new ways to help people take control of their own health. But this often happens without involving patients.

Women, trans men, and non-binary people with sex-specific conditions — such as endometriosis, menstrual, or hormonal issues — are often overlooked in medical research and innovation.

what are we working on?

Healthcare in the Netherlands is facing several challenges. More people are living with chronic illnesses, and there are fewer healthcare professionals available. As a result, the system is becoming increasingly strained.

That’s why we are exploring new ways to help people manage their own health, such as through e-health tools, lifestyle programs, smartwatches, or glucose sensors.

Technologically, much is possible. But what truly matters? What do patients actually need? And how do people themselves think about their health?

As researchers, we sometimes notice that the very people who could benefit the most are not sufficiently involved in designing new solutions.
Women, trans men, and non-binary individuals with sex-specific conditions are frequently underrepresented in medical research and healthcare design.

what do we ask of you?

This study consists of three sessions.

During these creative workshops, we will talk about your experiences with healthcare. Together, while talking, sketching, and creating, we will imagine what the future of healthcare could look like.

We ask participants to attend all three workshops.
As a thank-you, you will receive €15 per hour in the form of a gift card.

who can participate and when?

We are looking for women, trans men, and non-binary people who experience health conditions that primarily affect women, such as menstrual or menopausal symptoms, or endometriosis.

Have you been searching for solutions for your symptoms but feel that you haven’t found the right support — either on your own or with your doctors? Then we would love to hear from you!

  • You are 18 years or older and speak Dutch or English.
  • The workshops take place on November 11, November 25, and December 16, from 10:30 to 12:30.
  • Each workshop lasts about 2 hours and will be held at the University of Twente.
