The Future of your Health

research summary

In this study, we explore how we can work together with men to build the future of healthcare.

introduction

In healthcare, we’re always looking for new ways to help people take control of their own health. But this often happens without involving patients themselves. Men, for example, are rarely included in research on lifestyle or health-improvement programs. That’s why we want to co-create the future of healthcare together with men.

what are we working on?

Healthcare in the Netherlands is facing several challenges. More people are living with chronic illnesses, while there is less healthcare staff available. As a result, the system is becoming increasingly strained. That’s why we are exploring new ways to help people manage their own health — for example through e-health, lifestyle programs, smartwatches, or glucose sensors.

Technologically, a lot is possible. But what is actually meaningful? What do patients really need? And how do people themselves think about their health?

As researchers, we sometimes notice that the people these programs are meant for are not sufficiently involved in designing them. For instance, men are often underrepresented in studies about lifestyle programs (e.g., how to stay fit).

In this project, we explore how we can build the future of healthcare together.

what do we ask of you?

This study consists of three creative workshops.

During these sessions, we’ll discuss your experiences with healthcare. While talking, drawing, and creating, we’ll imagine possible futures for healthcare together.

We ask you to attend all three workshops.

As a thank-you, you will receive €15 per hour in the form of a gift card.

who can participate and when?

We are looking for men who might not easily join a diet or fitness program — come tell us how we can make those more enjoyable and appealing!

  • You are 18 years or older and speak Dutch or English.
  • The workshops take place on November 11, November 18, and December 9, from 13:30 to 15:30.
  • Each session lasts about 2 hours and is held at the University of Twente.
