Drone Noise to Modify Running Behaviour

Imagine drones helping you improve your running performance! This study explores how drone-provided audio feedback can influence your running technique, focusing on stride length. We’ve designed an innovative feedback system that uses drone noise to guide and improve running behaviour.

Now, we need your help to test this system!

What are we working on?

We aim to discover how drones can enhance running activities. Previous research shows that runners prefer audio feedback, and drones can effectively guide behaviours. But how well does this system work in real-world settings? That’s where you come in!

You’ll contribute to exciting research while exploring how drone noise can make running more engaging and insightful.

What do we ask?

  • Run on a treadmill at a pace you’re comfortable with—no need to push beyond your limits.
  • Wear a heart rate monitor and a small sensor on your hip.
  • Participate for 1.5 hours in total, including breaks.

In return, you’ll receive:

  • A 10 Euro Bol.com Gift Card
  • Healthy snacks during the session

Who can participate?

We’re looking for novice and recreational runners who:

  1. Identify as novice or recreational runners (0–5 runs/week, 0–10 km/run).
  2. Enjoy listening to music while running.
  3. Are injury-free for at least six months.
  4. Feel comfortable running for two 6-minute blocks on a treadmill at their chosen speed.
  5. Speak basic-level English.

 When and Where?

  • Study Ends: January 10th, 2025
  • Location: Citadel Building H109, University of Twente
  • Time Slots: Available daily from 9 AM to 9 PM

Important information

  • Participating in scientific research is always voluntary.
  • When you register for a study, you will always receive an automatic confirmation email from the email address of the researcher. This email contains a link to the English questionnaire.
  • The questionnaire starts with asking to accept the informed consent.
  • All studies in which people participate have been reviewed by an ethical committee. This committee checks whether that this research is carried out carefully according to scientific standards and in accordance with participants' rights.
  • Your contact details will only be used as you wish. We only share the data with the researcher of the study in which you want to participate. Have you checked that you would like to be kept informed about new research? You will then receive a message a maximum of once a month. If this changes, we will contact you first. Please read more about how we handle personal data here.
