Visualization of human anatomy using 3D-printing tangible anatomy for concept testing

DesignLab

Project information

To understand the human environment for which I am designing, to get an understanding of the actual human anatomy and its underlying problem(s) and to test possible concepts during my synthesis phases, I used facilities and expertise available to me at the DesignLab.

In the DesingLab, 3D-prints were made of the suitable human anatomy, which I segmented from CT-scans. These 3D-prints gave me an understanding of the actual anatomy and shape, which is sometimes hard to visualize with 2D CT-scans (see also website link).

I also used these 3D-prints as a mold to cast a silicone representation of the anatomy to test prototypes during my synthesis phases.
