With his last album Lines he tried simply to occupy a small niche in the music world, but Niels Geusebroek has in the process become something of a household name. He scored mega-hits with Year Of Summer and Take Your Time Girl, scooping up a bag of awards along the way.
Niels started out playing piano at a young age before picking up the guitar. He later formed the band Silkstone with a friend at school. Niels became the band’s singer almost 'by accident': “If there had been anyone else around at the time who could sing better, they’d have probably landed the job as lead singer.” As the years went by, Niels concentrated on developing his 'new' instrument. The band enjoyed some success: Silkstone released two albums, entered the Dutch Top 40 charts twice, as well as notching up three '3FM Megahits'. After the band split in 2009, Niels was asked to audition for The Voice Of Holland. He decided to go for it to kick off his career as a solo artist. He reached the semi finals. DJ Wildstylez happened to watch the show and together they released the instant hit single Year Of Summer.
Just when Niels considered releasing a third single from his album, Radio 538 DJ Ruud de Wild presented him with a special challenge. Newsreader Hannelore Zwitserlood was pregnant with her second child; could he write a song to the beat of the unborn baby's heart? The result is known by just about everyone. Take Your Time Girl, an amazing song that won everyone’s hearts, hit the charts instantly. Within days, Take Your Time Girl shot straight to pole position on iTunes. Niels’s first real solo hit; and certainly one to remember.
