University of Twente celebrates its 55th lustrum in 2016. The year’s lustrum theme: ‘University of Impact. Making a difference.’
The theme is part of several large university events planned for 2016, such as the alumni day in April and our Foundation Day celebrations in November. Research and Education at University of Twente has an impact on society. We are very proud of this fact and we will be showing our pride more than ever before in 2016.
Take a look at the programme here.
There are over 40,000 alumni representing the University of Twente worldwide. We are always interested to hear what they are doing and how they are now ‘making a difference’. The Alumni Day on Friday the 15th of April 2016 provides an excellent opportunity for us to renew our acquaintance. We have planned an inspiring programme and there will also be plenty of time to catch up with old classmates and friends as well as make new contacts! We will be happy to show our alumni around the campus, and of course they will have a chance to relax and ‘chill’ together, just like during the student days.
In short: a day full of nostalgia, networking, and inspiring new ideas!
Last summer, our campus was transformed into a vibrant festival site as it hosted the first ever CuriousU, an informative and informal summer school. The formula proved an instant hit.
CuriousU attracted almost two hundred undergraduate students from 74 universities in 28 countries, including Brazil, Japan, Australia and the USA.
They were drawn by the unique and appealing concept that we are extending in 2016. CuriousU proved to be a fantastic way of promoting the university, and everyone involved really enjoyed taking part.
I hope we can welcome even more international visitors this August and send them home as eager UT ambassadors.

Last October, Enschede’s city centre came alive with creativity and inspiration at our first ever University of Twente Science Night. Some of you contributed with, for example, public lectures, an exhibition, scientific pub quiz and even ‘dinner in the dark’ or ‘Gaming on the Church’.
This atmospheric event, part of the national Weekend of Science, will be held again during the first weekend of October 2016. We challenge our community to come up with new ideas and, from your own background and disciplines, contribute to this years Twente Science Night.
Central theme of this event: Safety & Security

The Week of Inspiration aims at directing our universities’ community to fundamental questions and problems of our life. The subjects we explore range from fundamental science and technology, to who we are, what we find important, how we organize our society, how we communicate with each other and why we are doing what we are doing.
Therefore we gather exceptional speakers with various backgrounds, who can excite the audience and who have something profound to tell. You’re welcome in November.
