For many years, the campus residents have always had their dinner at the mensa. First located in the Boerderij (with the obligatory "mensa bonnen"), later on in the Bastille. With so many hungry students, the number of consumed dinners increased in a tremendous pace. In 1991, therefore, the five millionth dinner was celebrated!
To celebrate, the restaurant staff organised a free dinner for 2900 students and staff: La grande bouffe. The chefs were busy for many days to feed all hungry guests. During the dinner, newspapers were handed out and several speeches were held, among others by rector magnificus prof. De Smit and Youri Mulder, former professional footbal player of FC Twente.
