Physics is one of the core fundamental disciplines from which many interdisciplinary collaborations and important innovations emanate. We want to reinforce our strengths by investing in the following research core values (zwaartepunten):
- Physics of Fluids
- Applied Nanophotonics
- Soft Matter
- Energy, Materials and Systems
- Nanoelectronic Materials and Thin Films
- Medical Imaging and Diagnostics
Scientists within these fields of expertise, as well as within other areas of our university, have a lively and fruitful interaction. Which is stimulated by our institutes: MESA+, TechMed and DSI.
The Physics discipline continues to provide excellent education in the areas of Applied Physics, Advanced Technology, Nanotechnology and Biomedical Engineering.
In these areas, the discipline conducts world-class research and is able to attract top talent.
The high quality of the Physics discipline is shown by the Max-Planck Center for Complex Fluid Dynamics, the 2018 Balzan Prize for Fluid Dynamics, 2 FOM Valorization prizes, 2 ERC Advanced Grants, 10 Vici’s, and 29 additional Veni, Vidi and ERC grants, as well as many bilateral projects with the industry.
