Frequently asked questions
The University of Twente is the linking pin between local housing providers and international UT students, employees, and guests. We mediate for furnished on- and off-campus accommodation on behalf of three local housing providers: Acasa, Stadsweide, and the ITC International Hotel.
Please note: The University of Twente merely offers a mediation service. If you accept an offer for accommodation, you will sign a rental agreement with one of the local housing providers and will be subject to their rules and regulations.

The University of Twente works with a waiting list (i.e. a ‘first come, first served’-policy). International students are, therefore, advised to apply for accommodation as soon as possible. The University of Twente will do its best to find suitable accommodation for you, however, no guarantees can be given due to the limited availability of accommodation.
Note: accommodation for students of University College Twente is guaranteed for the first two years of the programme.
You can apply for furnished accommodation once you meet the eligibility criteria. Please note, accommodation is allocated on first come, first served basis. Therefore, we recommend you to apply as soon as possible for accommodation once you meet the eligibility criteria.

Yes, however, you will be charged one month’s rent as well as administration costs.
The University of Twente mediates for accommodation with a maximum rental period of one year (12 months). After this year, you are expected to move out of your rented accommodation. It is not possible to renew or extend your rental contract after this year.
No, you cannot extend or renew your contract. However, you can apply for a new contract if your previous contract was shorter than 12 consecutive months. Since the University of Twente mediates for a maximum stay of 12 months, you can only request a new contract for the remaining months (i.e. if your previous contract was 7 months, you can only request a new contract for the remaining 5 months). By requesting a new contract, you will be placed at the bottom and no guarantees will be given in terms of allocating suitable accommodation for the period requested.
No, you are not allowed to move out of your accommodation before the end of your contract. If you do, you are still bound to the terms and conditions mentioned in your rental contract (e.g. paying rent). A rental contract is a legal document, binding you to its terms and conditions once signed by you and one of the local housing providers (Acasa, Stadsweide, or the ITC International Hotel). The only case in which you can move out of your accommodation earlier, is when you have quit your studies at the University of Twente. Once you provide the University of Twente with proof of your de-enrolment, you will receive more information about your possibilities by email.
