Pearls

What we have learned so far…

Since the beginning of this year, we have already been able to organise several valuable Round Tables, and more sessions will follow. These sessions are always organised in a changing composition and with colleagues and students from different parts of our organisation. During these Round Tables, a lot of valuable input has been given. What do we do with the input we receive?

  • We continuously sharpen our Manifesto;
  • We will redesign the tooling on recognition & rewards within UT, based on your suggestions;
  • The transcripts of the conversations will be (completely anonymous) studied by Milou Habraken (post-doc researcher HRM), and she will come up with some advice on tooling on recognition & rewards.

Share insights

We want to share the insights of the Round Tables sessions with the whole UT community. These insights are, to us, as valuable as pearls. These pearls are ‘the sound of our community', and were formulated by their founders (of course, anonymously). Those pearls explain our movement, hopefully, inspire you – as an employee or student – to share your experiences, and they help us to work together on a recognition and rewards movement within UT.

Collected pearls

Individual to individual

'It is important to take into account that reward and recognition can vary from individual to individual; for some, it might be opportunities to shape their career paths within the UT; for others, clarity of purpose within the organization, clear growth opportunities, or even recognition of individual passions.'

Organisational culture

'When we talk about organisational culture, this should clearly include a clear proactive communication by the employer. I think almost everybody knows that Google has a 20% principle to support personal innovation and development because it is well promoted as a fundamental part of the organisational culture. My guess is that at UT majority of people are not well aware of our culture and activities in that regard.'

Safe spaces

'As I see it, to create a reward and recognition environment, we need to create safe spaces where individuals feel comfortable sharing the problems that they encounter within the organization.'

Rewarding environment

'We need to define what creates a rewarding environment and start building from there.'

Recognition for all positions

'I know that there are educator of the year type of recognition is place, but I didn't hear any like project officer of the year, secretary of the year, or research engineer of the year.'
