Gregor Halff appointed new President of the Executive Board of the University of Twente

Sylvia Butzke, Chair of the UT’s Supervisory Board, is delighted with the appointment. “From our very first conversations with Gregor, we were impressed by him. He combines an inspiring and collaborative leadership style with a clear vision on the role universities play in society. Throughout the selection process, it also became clear how motivated he is to work with the UT community to realise the ambitions set out in our Institutional Plan.

His broad leadership experience both at universities in the Netherlands and abroad brings valuable expertise and an extensive international network to the University of Twente. At the same time, Gregor is a true team player who knows how to connect people and bring out the best in an organisation. We are confident that he is the right person to lead the University of Twente in the years ahead, and we look forward to working with him.”

Gregor Halff is equally enthusiastic about his new role. “This is Twente's moment. We live in a complex era, but one that offers tremendous opportunities for a university that connects technology with society's most pressing challenges. The University of Twente's unique combination of talent, ambition and collaboration makes it exceptionally well placed to make a difference. It is a privilege to become President of this community.

Through the collaboration between Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Twente, I already know Machteld Roos, Tom Veldkamp and several colleagues. That has only made me more curious to get to know the wider UT community: our students, researchers, lecturers, colleagues across our faculties and service departments, and partners.

My plan is to live on campus. So, if you see me walking around, please don’t hesitate and come and say hello. Tell me what you’re working on, what makes you proud, or what you think we could do better. I believe a strong university begins with getting to know one another, making connections, and building the future together.”

With Gregor Halff’s appointment, the University of Twente once again has a complete Executive Board. In the coming years, the university will implement its Institutional Plan, The Entrepreneurial University: Stronger Together. The plan focuses on developing talent, advancing impactful science, and strengthening the university’s connection with society.
