Students at the University of Twente (UT) are positive about their study programmes and the university. This is evident from the latest results of the National Student Survey (NSE). UT scores above the national average on all key themes and maintains a strong position among the top universities in the Netherlands.
Above average on all core themes
UT scores higher than the national average on all six core components of the survey. The university stands out particularly in the areas of student guidance (4.03 vs. 3.87 nationally) and preparation for a professional career (3.53 vs. 3.36 nationally). Students also rate the content and organisation of teaching (3.89 vs. 3.83 nationally) significantly higher than students at other higher education institutions.
Student engagement is high as well: with a response rate of 29 per cent, UT ranks among the leading universities in the Netherlands.
Practice-oriented education stands out
Students also give UT clearly higher scores than the national average on several specific aspects. They are especially positive about:
- The possibility of combining work and study
- Cooperating with others
- Developing problem-solving skills
- The connection with professional practice
- The opportunities for receiving guidance and support
These results underline UT’s educational vision, in which collaboration and practice-oriented learning play a central role.
More students recommend UT
Overall satisfaction is also reflected in the so-called Net Promoter Score (NPS), which measures the extent to which students would recommend their university to others. That score increased from 34.3 in 2025 to 37.9 in 2026.
Half of the students (50%) say they would actively recommend UT, while only 12% are less positive. This shows that the majority of students consider the university to be a good choice.
