Royal honour for Maroeska Rovers

Maroeska Rovers has been appointed Officier in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau. The royal honour was awarded in Berg en Dal and recognises her exceptional contribution to healthcare and her impact on the development of effective and affordable medical innovations. Rovers is Scientific Director of the TechMed Centre at the University of Twente and also serves as Professor of Medical Technology and Innovation at Radboudumc.

"The merits of Maroeska Reuzel-Rovers do not stem from voluntary work, but from an impressive career. She translates groundbreaking scientific research into practical tools—tools that improve patient care and medical practice worldwide. She is an internationally recognised figurehead for effective, affordable and valuable innovations in healthcare.

Her work focuses not only on improving care, but also on countering so-called ‘low-value care’. Together with her research group, she has ensured that the effectiveness of medical technology is assessed in a more robust and reliable way.

Thanks to her work, it is possible to make timely and careful assessments of which innovations truly add value for patients, and what their financial implications are for the healthcare system,” according to the citation accompanying the award.
