The University of Twente (UT) is once again among the best-performing universities in the Netherlands, according to the latest Keuzegids Universiteiten, published today. With an institutional score of 63 points, the UT — just like last year — maintains its fourth-place position in the national ranking. In addition, the university received no fewer than seven Top Rated Programme distinctions this year, two more than in 2025.
Strong increase in Top Rated Programmes
This year, the UT distinguishes itself with seven bachelor’s programmes that exceed the quality threshold required for the Top Rated Programme label. To qualify, a programme must achieve at least 75 out of 100 points. The following programmes received the designation:
- Management, Society & Technology (BMS) – 81
- Applied Physics (TNW) – 80
- Creative Technology at UT (EEMCS) – 79
- Communication Science (BMS) – 78
- Chemical Science & Engineering (TNW) – 76
- Industrial Engineering & Management (BMS) – 76
- Technical Medicine (TNW) – 76
National ranking
In this year's national ranking, the Open University leads with 72.5 points, followed by Wageningen University & Research (67.5). Both universities shared first place in 2025. Utrecht University ranks third with 63.5 points, just above the UT.
All UT programmes score 55 points or higher, and 14 out of 21 programmes score above the national average. Creative Technology showed the most significant improvement over the last year, gaining 8 points, which contributed to its Top Rated designation.
Recognition
The University of Twente is pleased with the new recognition in the Keuzegids. The results show that the continued commitment to offering challenging, personal and high-quality education is widely appreciated. These achievements are only possible thanks to the dedication and professionalism of all staff — from lecturers and researchers to support services. Their commitment forms the foundation of the educational quality for which the UT is known.
