Shing-Yun hacks her way into CuriousU 2019

It is little surprise that the winner of the Hack the Code contest for a free ticket for CuriousU has a background in Computer Science and Engineering: last week, Shing-Yun from Taiwan was able to earn her way into the University of Twente’s Summer School.

Each year, the University of Twente hides a code on the website, which gives potential participants free entrance to the Curious U Summer School. The code can be found by using different hacking methods and techniques. For the puzzle and hacking enthusiasts, it is a nice opportunity to take part in the unique summer event for free while solving a hacking challenge.

Brute force

Shing-Yun let her computer run day and night to finally find the answer: “I used brute-force attack and a dictionary (file) to try all the possible passwords. I ran my brute-force attack program on a server with 32 CPU. With that, the correct answer can be found in about five days.”

She will now be one of the students to participate in this year’s Curious U. Shing-Yun registered for the Robot Interaction Design Experience.

This summer, from 11 until 20 August, the fifth edition of CuriousU takes place at the University of Twente campus.
