Dietmar Gallistl wins Richard von Mises prize

UT researcher Dietmar Gallistl has won the prestigious Richard von Mises prize. This prize is awarded annually by the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM). Gallistl is a researcher in the Mathematics of Computational Science (MACS) group of the UT.

Since its establishment in 1989, the prize has been awarded to young scientists who provide excellent scientific performance in applied mathematics and mechanics. The award was presented during the opening ceremony of the annual meeting of the GAMM, where Gallistl presented his research.

The prize has been awarded to many famous mathematicians since its inception. For example, the winner of 1989, Alexander Mielke, is now one of the most influential applied mathematicians in Germany.

Richard von Mises was an Austrian-American mathematician who worked among others on numerical mathematics, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, statistics and probability theory.
