Han Warmelink appointed as the University of Twente’s Ombuds Officer

Earlier this year, the University of Twente announced the plan to run an Ombuds Officer pilot for staff and students. The position has now been filled. As of 15 October, Han Warmelink will start as Ombuds Officer.

Han Warmelink is a former senior lecturer of Constitutional Law at the University of Groningen and, until January of this year, a lecturer of Privatization at HAN University of Applied Science. He is currently course coordinator of Constitutional Law at Nyenrode Business University and president of the court of auditors committee Groningen since September 2015. He is also deputy chair of the national committee for reporting wrongdoings in secondary education.

Han WarmelinkHan Warmelink ‘s appointment will run until 15 October 2021. The pilot is slated to last for two years and will be evaluated in that period. The Ombuds Officer is independent and does not report to any authority in this position.

Han Warmelink had the following to say about his appointment: “I look forward to assisting students and staff where necessary. My experience and knowledge as a scientist, as a supervisor in public administration and as complaints officer in education can be put to good use in this position of ombudsperson at the UT.”

Both students and employees of the UT can go to the Ombuds Officer for advice on issues / problem situations related to studying or working at the UT. The ombudsperson initially has a listening ear, can offer advice and / or guidance and / or can refer you further if necessary.
