Erwin Hans nominated ‘Teacher of the year’

Last year, UT professor Erwin Hans was named best teacher at the University of Twente. This week, the ISO (Dutch National Students’ Association) announced he is also one of five nominees for the national Teacher of the Year award. The ISO organizes the election to draw positive attention to inspiring teachers and the teaching profession.

Hans was nominated for the award by students and the board of the UT. A jury then selected five nominees from among more than twenty entries. On 5 March these five will present a brief lecture at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht and participate in a debate with Jet Bussemaker, Minister of Education, Culture and Science. At the end of the meeting Bussemaker will announce who has been awarded the title Teacher of the Year.

In addition to this honour, the winner will also receive the first Comenius grant, worth €50,000. This is intended to finance innovations that will further improve education. The other nominees are Meindert Flikkema (VU), Aswin van Oijen (Tilburg University), Max Bogers (Fontys University of Applied Sciences), and Loes Damhof (Hanze University of Applied Sciences).
