UT remains in second place in Keuzegids; four master programmes top-rated

The University of Twente keeps her second place in the Keuzegids Masters. The newest edition of the study information guide was published today. Last year, the UT had a spectacular increase in their rating, and was now able to keep the numbers up. The score of 67 points out of 100, compared to 67.5 in 2019, leads to a second place in the ranking of all thirteen Dutch Universities. Wageningen UR is the table leader, and the UT scores two points ahead of the number three, TU/e.

Four top rated programmes

The number of Top rated programmes, a quality seal that is being awarded to master programmes with a score of 75 or above, is now four. The master programme Geo-Information Science & Earth Observation rates the highest: the score of 92 makes the programme the (shared) number two of all university master programmes in the Netherlands. It is the fifth time in a row the seal has been awarded to the programme. The two-year research master Methodology and Statistics for the Behavioural, Biomedical and Social Sciences, that is offered together with the University of Utrecht and the UMC medical center, improved her score by ten to 8 points. It is the second Top rated programme seal in a row. Applied Mathematics en Industrial Engineering and Management also received their first quality seal last year, and were able to continue their status.

Six master programmes - Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society, Technical Medicine, Electrical Engineering and Public Administration – received a score of 74 points and just missed out on a quality seal.

Improvers

Three educational programmes were able to improve their score by ten points or more: besides Methodology and Statistics for the BBS Sciences these programmes are Public Administration, also plus ten and Water Technology, that is being offered together with the universities of Wageningen and Groningen. Their score improved by an impressive ten points.

Thom Palstra, rector magnificus at the University of Twente: “I am extremely proud of the appreciation our students give this year to our courses. Almost half of our master's programs are rated best in their domain. Our teachers have worked hard with an excellent result. It is important that all our students are satisfied with our education. Fortunately, many initiatives have been started this year, such as the quality agreements programs, to further improve our education."

About the Keuzegids Masters

The Keuzegids Masters is an annual publication reflecting on the results and appreciation of all Dutch master programmes. For study seekers, the guide provides an important information source in their choice for academic education. For their verdict, the Keuzegids uses the student appreciation from the National Student Survey of the last three years, as well as the expert judgements from the accreditation decisions by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organization NVAO. The bachelor programmes are presented every October in the Keuzegids Universities, which is published in October.
