Members of faculty boards appointed by Executive Board

On 19 June 2017, the Executive Board finalized the first phase of the UT2020 restructuring plan. This involves the appointment of the new Faculty Boards, which will start work on 1 September 2017. The appointment of the members of the Faculty Boards represents an important step towards achieving a more integrated management of education, research and operations.

A multi-member Faculty Board has been appointed in each faculty. The aim of introducing these Faculty Boards is to encourage an integrated and coordinated approach of managing research, education and operational support. This will give researchers more opportunities, space and time to pursue science and acquire external funding.

Responsibilities and appointment of the Faculty Boards

The Faculty Boards will be responsible for the general oversight and management of the faculty. This includes structuring the faculty’s activities in teaching and education, the pursuit of science, and contributing to the overall management of the university.

Each Faculty Board consists of:

  • a dean
  • a portfolio for research
  • a portfolio for education
  • a portfolio for operations

A student will also be affiliated with each Faculty Board in an advisory role (student assessor).

The Faculty Boards will be collegial bodies, chaired by the dean. All members of the Faculty Boards are appointed by the Executive Board for a term of four years. If the dean steps down before the end of his or her term, the portfolio holders for research and education will also step down.

The Executive Board looks forward to working with the Faculty Boards and shaping the future direction of the university. The Board wishes the members of the Faculty Boards success in their new roles.

Follow-up

From September until December 2017, the Faculty Boards will explore their roles, tasks and their relation with other consultative bodies, Faculty Councils, support services, new style institutes, the Executive Board, and so on. At the same time, new arrangements will be made for mandates and organograms will be modified.
