Professor Steg appointed as member of UT Supervisory Board

Professor Linda Steg has been appointed to the Supervisory Board of the University of Twente for a four-year term. She is replacing departing member Professor Janka Stoker.

Linda Steg is since 2009 a Professor of Environmental Psychology at the University of Groningen (RUG). She studied Adult Education Theory in Groningen and has worked at the Netherlands Institute for Social Research (SCP) in The Hague, among other places. She earned her PhD in Groningen in 1996 based on her dissertation ‘Behavioural change to reduce car use’. Professor Steg’s research focuses on the interaction between humans and their environment.

In addition to her chair in Groningen, Professor Steg is also the Scientific Director of the Kurt Lewin Institute, and past-president of the Environmental Psychology division of the International Association of Applied Psychology. She is also affiliated with various scientific journals: she is an Advisory Panel member in Social Science and Policy of Nature Energy, Frontiers in Psychology: Environmental Psychology, Journal of Environmental Psychology, Environment & Behavior, Energy Efficiency, Psyecology: Bilingual Journal of Environmental Psychology and Applied Psychology: An International Review.

Anton Schaaf, President of the Supervisory Board, welcomes Professor Steg’s appointment, saying: “We were hoping to find a new Supervisory Board member with experience in academia so that we can maintain balance in the Board’s composition and profile. We are convinced that Professor Steg will be a valuable addition to the Supervisory Board. She possesses the skills needed for us to continue to perform our duties in the service of the university.”

Professor Steg had this to say about her appointment: “I am proud and honoured that I have been asked to join the UT Supervisory Board. I fully endorse the importance the university attaches to conducting excellent scientific research that has real relevance to society.”
