Anniversary conference: 40 years of public administration

On Friday 21 October 2016, the Public Administration anniversary conference will take place. The theme is ‘Governance without/across borders’.

The plenary programme will begin at 10.00 with a video message from Professor Benjamin Barber, author of the widely read book If mayors ruled the world. This will be followed by lectures by other prominent speakers from the academic world and the field of public administration. In the afternoon, there will be thematic workshops, followed by drinks and a celebratory dinner. During the morning programme, Professor René Torenvlied, Programme Director of Public Administration will also present the future plans for Public Administration at the University of Twente, in ‘Towards Public Administration 3.0’.

Governance without/across borders

In addition to Professor Benjamin Barber, Professor Arthur Benz (TU Darmstadt) and Professor Job Cohen (Leiden University and president of the VNG Curatorium (Association of Netherlands Municipalities’ Board of Trustees)) will also talk on the theme of ‘Governance without/across borders’. Governance without/across borders These lectures will be followed by a lunch, after which there will be six parallel workshops, each discussing approaches to important contemporary social challenges.

Cabaret by Wilfried Finkers

There will be a special afternoon programme for members of staff (both past and present) and alumni. The afternoon programme will begin at 17.00 with a short cabaret show in The Gallery, featuring a well-known member of the Finkers family. Natives of the province of Twente, this family includes several members who are stars in the world of cabaret. In his own unique style, Wilfried Finkers will present a show entitled ‘Networking for academics: Twente style’.

The anniversary programme will also give the participants an opportunity to meet alumni (including some from their own course of study), as well as members of staff (both past and present) from Public Administration. The anniversary conference will close with drinks and a celebratory dinner in the Faculty Club from 18.15 onwards.
