University of Twente's director of finance transfers to MST

Joyce Berger RA, current director of Financial and Economic Affairs at the University of Twente, shall be appointed manager of Finance and Procurement at Medisch Spectrum Twente on the 15th of October.

Berger has been working at the UT since 1 January 2004. She started as an internal accountant assisting the Operational Audit department. After a few years working in a managerial position, she was appointed director of the Finance & Economics Department (FEZ) mid 2009. Within this position, she focused on further developing the UT’s planning and control cycle. Berger also established the UT’s Finance Academy. At the Academy, she strongly committed herself, on the one hand, to improving the collaboration between FEZ’s centralised and decentralised employees, and on the other hand to improving the quality within the UT’s finance sector.

In addition to her responsibilities at the UT, Joyce Berger also holds several social positions. She is, for instance, chairman of the Board of Directors at Sportaal (a sports company established by the city of Enschede), a member of the Supervisory Board of the Stedelijk Lyceum in Enschede, and she is a member of the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph’s housing corporation in Almelo.

Berger started her career at KPMG Accountants, where she combined studying for her degree with working in practice, and graduated as an accountant from the University of Amsterdam.

Berger on her departure from the UT: “I really enjoyed working at the UT for the last 13 years. The UT has been a fantastic environment to work in. I am most definitely going to miss my colleagues at the UT, and I think it a real shame that I won’t be able to finish a few processes that we started. At the same time, however, I am really looking forward to starting my new job at MST. Now their new building has been finalised, MST is looking at various interesting challenges, which I would like to be a part of. I am looking forward to becoming more familiar with the management side of health care.”

Mirjam Bult, vice-chairman of the UT’s Executive Board on Berger’s transfer: “We, the Executive Board, fully support Joyce’s choice. We will certainly miss her knowledge and her passion for the UT. Berger has been committed to really making a name for the UT’s Finance & Economics Department the last few years, and she has been an excellent sparring partner. We can continue the course she started on and have confidence in future developments. We are very grateful for Joyce’s professionalism and collegiality, and would like to wish her all the best within her new position at MST. We will shortly start recruiting for her replacement at the UT.”
