Joep van Beurden joins the University of Twente’s Supervisory Board

Chief Executive of Kendrion N.V. Joep van Beurden has been appointed to the Supervisory Board of the University of Twente for a period of four years as of 1 January 2016. Van Beurden succeeds Eelco de Boer, who served on the Board since January 2008.

Joep van Beurden has over 20 years of experience at the helm of technology companies in the United States and Europe. Since 1 December 2015, Van Beurden has been Chief Executive of Kendrion N.V., an organization focused on the design and development of advanced electromagnetic and mechatronic solutions for industrial and automotive applications.

From 2007 to 2015 he was CEO of CSR plc, a semiconductor company active in the automotive and consumer electronics markets. Prior to his time at CSR, he was CEO of NexWave Inc., a provider of software solutions for equipment such as TVs and DVD players. He also held senior management positions at Canesta Inc., a semiconductor company, and at Philips Components in California. His experience also encompasses positions at McKinsey & Co. and Royal Dutch Shell. Immediately after graduating, he taught Physics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Zambia.

Joep van Beurden is an alumnus of the University of Twente, having obtained his engineering degree in Applied Physics in 1985.

On his appointment Van Beurden comments: “As a Twente alumnus, I feel proud and honoured to be able to put my business background in technology and innovation to good use by contributing to the future of our entrepreneurial university.”

The Supervisory Board is convinced that Joep van Beurden’s appointment represents a valuable addition to the University of Twente. To fill this position, the Board was looking for a candidate with international experience in high-tech and innovation, international experience with technology start-ups and – as a member of the audit committee – a candidate with financial experience in an organization of considerable scope. Joep van Beurden more than meets these demands.
