First Double Degree in Nanotechnology Joint programme UT and Lodz University of Technology

The first graduate of the Double Degree Nanotechnology, offered by the University of Twente and Lodz University of Technology is Beata Nagórniewicz from Poland. Both universities are members of the European consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU) and they jointly developed a nanotechnology programme.

Beata Nagórniewicz finished her Master’s research in the group Biomaterials Science & Technology of Prof Dirk Grijpma. Her nanomedicine research typically took place at the interface of the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology and the MIRA Institute for Biomedical Technology and Technical Medicine of the University of Twente. She used magnetic nanoparticles for targeted therapeutics of hepatic fibrosis. Beata chose the combination of the university in her home country with the University of Twente, because UT has an excellent reputation in nanotechnology. At her Master’s presententation, the responsible Vice-Dean of the university of Lodz, was present.

Lodz University of Technology offers both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s programme in Nanotechnology, UT offers a Master. Together, the universities aim at about four Double Degrees each year, for very talented students.

The European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU) is a network of entrepreneurial research universities in Europe, together with associate partners in a.o. Mexico. The University of Twente was one of the founders of the network in 1997. All participating universities have in common that in their home regions, there has been a transition of the classic industry towards knowledge intensive companies, innovation and creativity. In this transition, the ECIU universities play an important role as accelerators. An at the UT Master’s website.
