University of Twente researchers to evaluate national crisis response Flight MH17 disaster

The University of Twente will evaluate the performance of the Dutch national crisis management organization in response to the Flight MH17 disaster. The evaluation study is commissioned by the Ministry of Security and Justice’s Research and Documentation Centre (WODC). A team of researchers from University of Twente will examine various aspects of the national crisis response from the moment news broke that Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 had crashed in Eastern Ukraine. René Torenvlied, Professor of Public Management at the university’s Department of Public Administration will lead the project.

Professor Torenvlied has assembled a multidisciplinary research team that includes experts from the Institute for Innovation and Governance Studies (IGS) at the University of Twente: Ramses Wessel, Professor of International and European Institutional Law; Ellen Giebels, Professor of Psychology of Conflict, Risk & Safety; and Jan Gutteling, Associate Professor in Risk Perception, Crisis communication, and Risk Communication. Leiden University and TU Delft / Saxion University of Applied Sciences are also involved in the study.
