Career move for professor Kitty Nijmeijer

After having served more than fifteen years at the University of Twente, prof. dr. ir. Kitty Nijmeijer is on the verge of making a move to Eindhoven University of Technology. TU/e has a strong profile in the field of organic materials science and process technology, which matches the core of Nijmeijer’s academic research and education.

The academic transfer offers Nijmeijer new opportunities in reinforcing the link between the development of new membrane materials and process engineering technology. Nijmeijer will have the opportunity at TU/e to establish a new research group on membrane separations. The research group will target the development of new membranes for technological applications in the field of renewable energy and production of clean water.

Nijmeijer emphasizes that she has always worked with joy at the University of Twente and its Faculty of Science and Technology. “I have enjoyed the experience of collegiality within the University, the faculty and the research group Membrane Technology”, Nijmeijer stated. “Together we have built a great educational program and conducted top level research. It provides a great base for a new step in my scientific career. I am looking forward to a lasting pleasant and professional collaboration with the UT.”

The Executive Board of the University of Twente greatly appreciates Nijmeijer’s contribution to the UT: “She has put membrane technology on the map and has been of great value to the UT with her work. We wish her all the best in her new position and look forward to further collaboration with Kitty and Eindhoven University of Technology”, says Rector Magnificus dr. Ed Brinksma.

After her PhD at the chair of Membrane Technology at the University of Twente in 2003, Nijmeijer has been responsible for the European Membrane Institute (EMI) at the UT. EMI provides the base input for valorization research of the chair. After, she made the step towards academic research and education. As of 2012, Nijmeijer was professor in Membrane Science and Technology at the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Twente.
